Using Hair Nets As A Protective Style

Last month I mentioned on my Facebook page that I was going back into protective styling or low manipulation styling mode and putting off the wash and go’s and afros until May. This will be my 3rd, 6 month protective styling challenge.
I decided to do it again because my hair really benefited from the last 2 challenges. I was able to retain length and was also able to keep my hair moisturized throughout the winter. Unfortunately I haven’t had as much time to dedicate to styling my hair as I would like so if you happen to have seen me over the past few weeks most likely you have seen me in one of these hair nets.

In the pics above the net was used to cover an old twist out. In the pics below the net was used to cover some two strand twists that needed to be taken down.

Although my family and I joked about me looking like the school lunch room lady, I like how the hair nets kept my hair covered while still being able to look presentable. These nets were purchased at the local beauty supply for about $1.50 each, so far I have 3 different colors, brown, black and the multicolored one shown above. The multicolored net is black, red, yellow and green, I picked it up because it reminded me of the one I saw Bob Marley wear in the documentary Marley. These seems to perfect for when I don’t have time to do anything to my head. All I have to do is stuff my hair into a net and fancy it up with a swoop or a pomp.

Until next time. . .

If protective styling helps you retain your length then do what you must. I don't think you look like the lunch lady and I work in a school.
