Shea Butter

Shea butter where have you been all my life?! This stuff is amazing. It has many benefits and uses. I use it for my hair, face and body.

Shea butter is a great moisturizer because it contains vitamin E and vitamin A. It can be used to help treat eczema and psoriasis, chapped lips, helps to fight wrinkles and softens the skin. In hair care shea butter is used to moisturize dry and/or damaged hair and scalp.

Shea butter comes from the Karite Nut tree found in West Africa. I have heard that raw or unrefined shea butter is best and its color usually ranges from off white to yellow. Raw or unrefined shea butter should have a slight smoky or nutty scent.

I have found that shea butter is easier to use when it has been melted and whipped. You can find whipped shea butter recipes on the internet and YouTube.
