Using Hair Nets As A Protective Style

Last month I mentioned on my Facebook page that I was going back into protective styling or low manipulation styling mode and putting off the wash and go’s and afros until May. This will be my 3rd, 6 month protective styling challenge.
I decided to do it again because my hair really benefited from the last 2 challenges. I was able to retain length and was also able to keep my hair moisturized throughout the winter. Unfortunately I haven’t had as much time to dedicate to styling my hair as I would like so if you happen to have seen me over the past few weeks most likely you have seen me in one of these hair nets.

L.O.C. Method

This month when it comes to moisturizing my hair I am going to give the L.O.C. method  a try. I have been reading about this method for quite some time now, its suppose to keep hair moisturized for a longer period of time, reducing the need to moisturize every day. Since I no longer have time to or should rather say that I am usually too tired to moisturize every day or every night I am ready to try just about anything that would help keep my hair feeling soft and moisturized longer. If you are not familiar with the L.O.C. method its basically just 3 simple steps.

Feel Good Music: South African Puppeteer

Someone shared this video of a talented South African Puppeteer and his dancing puppets with me and I loved it. These puppets are not for kids as they have some adult dance moves but they can really move and the music has a nice beat to it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Wash & Go Styled With CURLS Products

Last year I posted a wish list of products I would love to try on my hair one day. After paying bills and having a little extra money left over I got a chance to try out a brand on the list, CURLS hair care line. Their products do not contain any sulfates, silicones, parabens, mineral oil or petroleum.

Since I wanted to try a little bit of everything and couldn’t afford to get full size bottles of everything I went to CURLS.biz website and ordered the CURLS Essential + CURLS Gel-Les’c (jealousy) sample kit. The kit contained trial size bottles of Curlicious Curls Cleansing Cream which is a no suds shampoo, Coconut Sublime Moisturizing Conditioner that smells delicious, Quenched Curls Moisturizer, several sample jars of Champagne & Caviar Curl Elixir which is a blend of various hair oils, Curl Gel-les’c gel/serum and a step by step picture guide on how and when to use each products.

Feel Good Music: Dance Break

This has been one of the most stressful weeks I have had in a very long time. Putting into practice everything I have learned about my new job position has been really overwhelming and in my head I quit about 3 times this week…lol.

Stress tends to bring chaos into my world. I tend to eat more salty and sweet snacks than I normally would, I totally give up on exercise, don’t care for my hair as usual and my energy is like non-existent. I come home from work and fall asleep the moment I walk through the door. I don’t like feeling like this at all! So to put some fun back into my routine I am starting today off with a dance break to shake off this week’s troubles.

Have a Happy Friday!
Until next time. . .

I’m Not Afraid Of A Little Heat

With the sudden change in the temps I figured that this would be a good time to straighten my hair.

I have figured out that Fall & Winter are the best times of the year to flat iron my hair and be able to keep it straight. Straightening in the rainy Spring & humid Summer  months are a no go for me. For a person that was never really good at flat ironing my hair permed or natural I really like the results this time around.

Mini Twist Out

I spent the last few weeks of summer in mini twists. They lasted for about 2 weeks before I took them down for a twist out that lasted about 3 – 4 days. I must say that I got a good wear out of those twist and was proud of myself for keeping a protective style in for longer than a few days.  Here are few pics of the twist out.

Where Did The Time Go!

Can’t believe I have gone a full 2 weeks without washing my hair!
These past 2 weeks has been kinda hectic so I’m going to use that as an excuse for loading my hair with oils, aloe vera gel, leave in conditioner, smooth and hold pudding and clear hair gel. Then styling it differently ever other day and sleeping with and without covering it a night. It feels like UGGGHHHH and is not acting right at all.

Product Review: Beautiful Textures

It has been many many moons since I walked into a local Korean beauty supply store. I really haven’t been avoiding the stores just didn’t have a need to go in one. Back in July for some reason I decided to go there to pick up a few items like clips, satin rollers, combs, etc …
While shopping I went down every aisle looking at different brands of relaxers remembering how I used to just walk in pick up the perm of choice, a half wig or ponytail and walk right out. Now I’m looking around for more than 15 minutes searching for a product that would help to style mine and my daughter’s chemical free hair. I was shocked when I crossed over into one aisle and there were all types of stuff for natural hair. Grant it, the 1st ingredient in many was mineral oil or petroleum and the good stuff like aloe or jojoba was listed way at the bottom and some unpronounceable ingredients sprinkled in the middle but at least there were options.
I decided to go for the Beautiful Textures Curl Control Defining Pudding and Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner. I paid about $6 or $7 for each 15oz jar. At the checkout I noticed behind the counter the store also carried Kinky Coily. Guess they don’t trust that product on the shelf, I probably would have purchased if I saw it with the other products but then again this is I why I don’t shop here often. I have trust issues with this place but their low prices keep bringing me back kinda like Walmart.
