It’s That Time Again, It’s Wash day

After having two strand twists in for 2 weeks it’s time to take them down and wash my hair. Here are the tools and steps I take on wash day. It usually take me about 1 – 2 hours to go through this process.

Tools needed:

  • Wide tooth comb
  • Plastic cap
  • Clips
  • Conditioner
  • Shampoo
  • Deep conditioning treatment
  • Moisturizer

Step 1: Detangle
Using fingers separate hair into 4 – 6 sections. Secure each section with a clip. Apply conditioner to dry hair and gently use your fingers to detangle and remove any knots. Follow up with a wide tooth comb. When done braid that section. Repeat until all sections has been detangled and braided.

Step 2: Shampoo
Wet braids and apply shampoo to scalp. Using the pads of your fingers gently massage the scalp to cleanse. The suds from the shampoo should seep into the braids cleansing the hair as well. Rinse soap from braids and scalp.

Step 3: Deep conditioning treatment
Working with one braid at a time take down wet braid and apply deep conditioning treatment. Comb treatment through hair with wide tooth comb. You can either re-braid each section once treatment has been applied or you can leave hair loose. I like to re-braid each section so that I won’t have to detangle again. When done cover hair with plastic cap and let sit for 30 minutes to an hour or however long packaging suggests.

Step 4: Rinse
Using lukewarm or cool water, rinse deep conditioning treatment from hair.

Step 5: Moisturize
On either dripping wet hair or towel dried hair apply your favorite moisturizer or oil.

Step 6: Style
Have fun and style hair however you like
