Today I wanted to share with you all a Green Smoothie that I created this morning but I didn’t want to just jump out of the blue and start posting pictures of food and stuff when this blog has been dedicated to my natural hair journey. With every journey there are twists and turns and at this juncture my focus had to turn away from hair for a while, it was time to focus on health and let me tell you why.
About 2 years ago my skin decided that is was going to have the worst eczema outbreak of my life. I’m talking about extremely itchy and irritated skin. Of course the only thing the doctor would or could do is try to give me some type of medication and various creams and ointments that didn’t work. So I set out to find a way to get my skin back to normal on my own.
Researching, watching food documentaries like Fat Sick & Nearly Deadand reading books like The Green Smoothie Revolution lead me on the path to wanting and needing to eat much better and cleaner. So I started drinking green smoothies in hopes that it would help me. At first I hated drinking them, then I tried different combinations of greens and fruits and juices. And what do you know, I ended up loving the concoctions. Although the drinks were all various shades of green, it mostly end up tasting like the fruit used to create them.
After a few months of drinking green smoothies my skin started changing for the better. Less itchy, over a little more time, less irritated and now today my skin is almost like it was before the outbreak. Plus I dropped a few pounds and have less acne. After experiencing these types of benefits I am now a green smoothie fan!
Now that I got that off my chest let me show you all today’s smoothie.
In the blender I tossed in 2 bananas (1 of those were frozen), handful of strawberries, about 1/2 cup of strawberry yogurt, 2 handfuls of spinach and some coconut water. This made 24 oz, enough for two servings. I don’t have a special name for this one but I can say that is was delicious. In the future I plan on sharing more of my smoothie mixtures.
Until next time. . .
