Flat Twists and Coils

I wanted to push myself this week by being a little more creative with styling. Decided to do some sort of up-do style.  Since this was my first time trying a style like this I was not sure how it would turn out. While doing the flat twists I started having doubts but I was pleased with how it came out. Over all it took a lot of patience, a few breaks and about 2 1/2 hours to complete.

  • Tools used: wide tooth rat tail comb, clips, spray bottle filled with water, and two mirrors (handheld mirror and big mirror)
  • Products used: Suave clarifying shampoo, V05 strawberry conditioner, Queen Helene cholesterol treatment, whipped shea butter, Eco Styler gel

Before styling I washed scalp and hair with shampoo. The clarifying shampoo left my hair squeaky clean. Conditioned with V05 to rid hair of that stripped feeling. Deep conditioned with Queen Helene for about 30 minutes. Rinsed out the cholesterol treatment and applied whipped shea butter to seal hair. Sectioned hair with clips and proceed to style using the Eco Styler gel. I like to apply whipped shea butter to hair before gel, this prevents having hard crunchy hair.

I would love to keep this style for as long as possible but to be realistic I’m hoping it would last at least a week, two if I’m lucky.

To maintain I cover at night with a snug fitting satin bonnet. In the morning take off bonnet or scarf and spray hair with my moisturizing spray that contains water, aloe vera juice, olive oil and lavender.
