Dreams Do Come True

I have been having fun with these braids!  If I had to describe them I would say they are free and easy.
braids styled to the side

Free because literally it cost me nothing to have them. I use to pay anywhere from $80 – $220 to get my hair braided or twisted at the African braid shops to only take it down 2 – 3 weeks later. Although I loved being able to wake up, spray some braid spray and go about my way, this was not a smart way for me to spend the little money I did have. While sitting in the chair for hours getting my scalp twisted (I swear that’s what it felt like sometimes) I used to wonder if I could achieve the same look with my own hair, nothing added. But at the same time I thought it was impossible because my relaxed hair couldn’t do it and since I wasn’t giving that up it just couldn’t be done.

2009 twists done at African shop

Well, I am sooo glad that Nappturality forums taught me that it was possible and it could be achieved and it will only happen when I left the relaxer alone. Grant it these braids are not the size of the African braid shop braids but I love em. My own braids are light and has movement. The others used to be heavy, pulled on my edges and some even fell out, that’s not a good thing.

The past few days I have been having too much fun, gathering them into ponytails sometimes leaving a few out in the front or back, showing em off in headbands and even managed to gather them up into an updo. Everyday has been something different.

pinned to the side
I am most proud of the updo created this morning, its my best one yet.
Braids that could not be grabbed were pinned to the side.
Put on some of Taliah Waajid’s Crinkle and Curl foam that was gifted to me and twisted together.
After awhile, maybe 15 minutes, untwisted braids for some crinkle curlies.

I also found the metal feather earring I thought was lost, it went perfectly with the dress. I wonder if Glitter rotates its selection of accessories, may just have to make a special trip to the mall to find out…LOL

Until next time…….

I really like your updo! Very creative. Today I noticed that when I shake my head my curls move a little. Totally understand you about the movement.

Thanks JenJen! Letting the hair shake and move is a freeing feeling.
